Before modern machinery changed the countryside, haymaking was a busy time for families and neighbours. When the grass was cut and the weather was fine, everyone worked together to turn, rake and gather the hay.

Horse-drawn rakes were used to bring the hay into rows, while people worked with forks to turn it and help it dry. Once ready, it was built into great haystacks to provide feed for the animals through the long winter months.

A simple memory of hard work, good weather and neighbours working together — keeping an old Irish farming tradition alive.
