In Irish mythological tradition, the Tuatha Dé Danann were a remarkable people whose name means “The People of the Goddess Danu.” They are described in medieval Irish literature as beings of extraordinary skill, wisdom and artistry, associated with healing, poetry, music, craftsmanship and the sacred knowledge of the natural world.

According to legend, they arrived in Ireland through mist and sea, bringing with them great learning and the celebrated Four Treasures of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Their stories became central to Ireland’s mythological cycle and introduced enduring figures including Danu, Lugh, The Dagda, The Morrígan, Aengus Óg and Manannán mac Lir.

Following the coming of the Milesians, the Tuatha Dé Danann are said in legend to have withdrawn into the Otherworld, where later tradition came to associate them with the Aos Sí, the hidden folk of Ireland.
