Folklore tells of the Dullahan appearing at night, sometimes riding along lonely roads or through the countryside. His arrival was traditionally associated with death, making him one of the more frightening figures within Ireland’s supernatural storytelling traditions.

Some tales describe him carrying a whip made from a human spine, while others tell of a mysterious black carriage accompanying him. Like many Irish legends, details vary from one telling to another.
