The blacksmith was an essential part of everyday life. His forge was a place of heat, skill and hard work, where horses were shod, tools were repaired and iron was shaped into whatever the community needed.

From horseshoes and plough shares to gates, latches, nails and farm tools, the blacksmith made and repaired the things that kept farms and homes working.

It was a craft passed down through generations — requiring strength, patience, knowledge and pride in good workmanship.

And the forge was more than a workplace. It was often a meeting place where neighbours called in, stories were shared and friendships were made.

A beautiful reminder of the skilled craftsmen who stood at the heart of rural Irish communities.
