Patrick Pearse was one of the most prominent figures of the 1916 Easter Rising. A passionate poet, educator and advocate for the Irish language, he devoted much of his life to Ireland’s cultural revival.

Born in Dublin in 1879, Pearse founded St Enda’s School, where Irish language, history and culture were central to education.

During the Easter Rising, Pearse served as one of its principal leaders and read the Proclamation of the Irish Republic outside the General Post Office in Dublin.

Following the surrender, Pearse was court-martialled and executed on 3 May 1916, aged just 36.
