Created around the 4th century AD, Ogham is the earliest known written script of Ireland. Its distinctive lines were carved along the edges of standing stones, recording personal names, family territories and lasting memorials. Today, more than 400 Ogham stones survive across Ireland.

In later Irish tradition, each Ogham letter became associated with a sacred tree, reflecting the deep respect the Celtic people held for the natural world. The oak symbolised strength, the birch new beginnings, the ash wisdom and the rowan protection, creating a beautiful bond between language, landscape and memory.
