The Story of the Salmon of Knowledge
Long ago, in the waters of the River Boyne, lived the magical Salmon of Knowledge. It was said that the salmon had gained all the knowledge in the world by eating the hazelnuts of wisdom that fell into the river.
The wise poet Finegas spent many years trying to catch the salmon, hoping to gain its extraordinary knowledge.
One day, the young Fionn mac Cumhaill was helping Finegas. When the salmon was finally caught, Finegas asked Fionn to cook it, warning him not to eat any of it.
While cooking, Fionn burned his thumb on the salmon. He instinctively put his thumb into his mouth — and tasted a drop of its magical juices.
At that moment, the knowledge of the salmon passed to Fionn.
From then on, Fionn possessed extraordinary wisdom. Whenever he needed to understand something, he could gain knowledge by placing his thumb between his teeth.
The story of the Salmon of Knowledge became an important part of the legend of Fionn mac Cumhaill and the Fianna, reminding generations that true wisdom is one of life's greatest treasures.
Beautifully illustrated in the RareGer style, this card celebrates Irish mythology, wisdom, curiosity and the power of knowledge.
A timeless Irish legend — where one small taste changed the life of a great hero.
