Long ago in Ulster lived King Conchobar and his beautiful daughter, Deirdre. From her earliest days, Deirdre was surrounded by prophecy and was destined to bring great sorrow.

Deirdre fell deeply in love with Naoise, son of Usna, one of the brave warriors of Uisneach. Their love was strong, but King Conchobar wanted Deirdre for himself.

With the help of Deirdre's nurse, Leborcham, Deirdre and Naoise fled Ireland with Naoise's brothers and lived in exile for a time.

Eventually, they were persuaded to return to Ulster. But the king's anger had not faded, and tragedy soon followed.

Naoise and his brothers were betrayed and killed. Deirdre was taken back to Conchobar, heartbroken by the loss of the man she loved.

Their story has lived on for centuries as one of Ireland's most powerful legends — a story of love, betrayal, loyalty, fate and sacrifice.
